One of Elbow's main concerns about the difference between the writer verses the academic writer is the nature in which the text is written.  The writer has control over what a text means resulting in "ownership" of the text.  The academic writer follows a specific form or sturcture and does not always write for themselves and is directed to the reader or critic.
